Biography & Genealogy:Carl Mead Best, Class of 1886: Genealogy: Born- Dec. 11, 1861 in Wadesville, Clarke Co. Va. Father- Dr. William J. Best; Mother- Frances Jefferson. No information on grandparents. Married- Margaret E. Dotts of Philadelphia, Pa. No Children. VMI Record: Entered VMI- July 22, 1884; Graduated June 25, 1886, ranking 6th in a class of 28. Also the summer school at University of Va. for 2 years after graduating from VMI. Careers: Taught school in Woodstock, Va and later taught in Arkansas; taught at a Military School in Mexico, Mo.; took a post-graduate course at John Hopkins University and from there went to Millersburg, Ky.; Was Superintendent of Millersburg Military Institute. Died- Dec. 5, 1922 in Millersburg, Ky.

The database currently includes the names of all enrolled students (both graduates and non-graduates) from VMI's opening in 1839 through the World War II era.
