Biography & Genealogy:John Gilmer Breckinridge, VMI Class of 1883 (did not graduate). Genealogy: Born February 10, 1863, Grove Hill, Botetourt Co., VA. Father: Peachy Gilmer Breckinridge (VMI Class of 1857); Mother: Julia Anthony. Paternal grandfather- Capt. Cary Breckinridge; Maternal grandmother- Emma Gilmer. VMI Record: Enrolled on September 3, 1879, from Fincastle, VA. Was a cadet for 3 years. Marriage: To Minnie Munford, daughter of Elizabeth Radford and John Munford of Williamsburg, VA. Career: After leaving VMI traveled and worked in the West in Colorado, California, and Washington. Returned to VA in 1886 and managed his grandmother's estate "Grove Hill." In 1894 moved to Washington Co., VA and farmed there until his death on Feb. 10, 1903.
