Biography & Genealogy: | George C. Waddill, Class of 1852: Born- ca. 1831 in Lynchburg, Va. Names of parents unknown, but he was raised by his uncle Dr. James Saunders. He was married, but we have no information about his wife, and he had one son and two daughters alive at the time of his death on Jan. 14, 1910 in Livingston, NY. He entered VMI Aug. 25, 1848 and was dismissed April 7, 1851 for destroying a demerit book. During the Civil War he was Captain of Co. A of the 4th La. Battalion and promoted to Major Sept. 19, 1861. After the War he was a prominent cotton planter in Miss. and La. He was president of the Louisiana Levee Board and a director of the Vicksburg, Miss. and Pacific Railway til it's absorbtion by the Southern Pacific. He retired in 1895. |
