Pat. Grandfather- Peyton Skipwith of Prestwood Mecklenburg Co. VA; Pat. Grandmother- Cornelia Greene of Rhode Island. Mat. Grandfather- William Preston Anderson of Franklin, KY; Mat. Grandmother- Margarete Adair of Whitehall, KY. Married- Lennie Powell, daughter of John Collier Powell on Feb. 18, 1890. Children- 1- Mary Adair Skipwith; 2- Cornelia Grenne Skipwith; 3- Emma Webster Skipwith; 4- Edith Powell Skipwith. Entered VMI- Sept 2, 1864; Was stationed with the Corps of Cadets in Richmond until it disbanded; Resigned from VMI April 2, 1865. Civil War Service- No definite records, but there was a Skipwith who enlisted Aug. 2, 1862 in Co. G. of the 2nd. Ms. Partisan Rangers, then was appointed 1st Sgt. Aug. 14, 1862 only to be dismissed in late 1862 or early 1863 because of his age. It's possible that this man and the man who attended VMI are one in the same since the VMI man would have only been 14 or 15 in 1862, but his identification is still only speculative. Career- Manager of the Spool Cotton Co. in St. Louis, MO. Died- May 25, 1926 in St. Louis, MO. |
