Biography & Genealogy:John D. Horsley. Genealogy: Born April 30, 1849, Nelson County, Virginia. Parents- William Andrew Horsley (1815-1887), a physician, and Eliza George Perkins; Paternal grandparents- John Horsley (1787-1850) and Philadelphia Hamilton Dunscombe (1797-1817); Maternal grandparents- George Perkins and Eliza Richardson of Cumberland, Co. VA. Marriage: Mrs. Florence Massie Tunstall (widow of John Tunstall). Issue: Catherine Dunscombe Horsley, Bland Massie Horsley, Thomas Martin Horsley, Eliza Perkins Horsley. VMI Record: Enrolled January 2, 1865 and was with Corps until it disbanded after the fall of Richmond in April 1865. Post-Civil War: Attended the University of Virginia; read law under Camm Patterson of Buckingham Co.; practiced law in Nelson County; Circuit Court Judge, Lynchburg. Death: On November 20, 1909, in Lynchburg, VA.

The database currently includes the names of all enrolled students (both graduates and non-graduates) from VMI's opening in 1839 through the World War II era.
