Biography & Genealogy: | Gray Doswell, Class of 1868: Born- Aug. 30, 1846 in Galveston, TX. Matriculated from Fredericksburg, VA. At VMI 5 months. Military Record: entered service on June 28, 1863 for 6 months as a Private with Company G, 3d Battalion Local Defense Troops (3d Regiment Local Defense Troops, Major J.A. Henley's Battalion; Lieutenant Colonel J. McAnerney's Battalion); Wounded in Action February or March, 1864 in the thigh while opposing a U.S. Cavalry raid on Richmond; spent Oct.-Nov. 1864 in a Richmond hospital; nominated for cadetship in army Nov. 23, 1864 by Representative D.F. Kenner; as there were no vacancies, he elected instead to attend VMI; with Corps of Cadets in Richmond trenches until it disbanded on Apr. 2, 1865. Post War Career: at University of Virginia 1865-66 (and possibly 1866-67); stockbroker. Died- Dec. 13, 1874 near Baltimore, Maryland. |
