Biography & Genealogy: | William Augustus Blount Branch, Class of 1868. Born- 26 February 1847 in Tallahassee, FL. Only son of Confederate States Brig Gen L.O'B. Branch. Matriculated from Raleigh, NC. At VMI 5 months. At UNC 1863-1864. Military Record: With Corps in Richmond trenches until it disbanded 2 April 1865. Courier for Maj Gen R.F. Hoke. Surrendered in North Carolina. (Unofficial source lists as Lt, Aide-de-Camp). Post War Career: Planter, Public Official. Studied law but never practiced. Married Eliza Blount (a cousin). He was a Democrat Representative of the 1st District of North Carolina in the US House of Representatives from 1891-1895. Representative of Beufort County in the North Carolina House of Representatives in 1905. Episcopalian. Died- 18 November 1910. Buried in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, NC. |
