Biography & Genealogy:	James Patton Preston, Class of 1867: Born- December 5, 1845. Matriculated from Richmond, Va. At VMI 3 months (entered as a 5th year freshman). Military Record: Served April-August 1 as Private, Company E, 4th Virginia. Discharged August 3, 1861. Entered VMI January 14, 1863. Enlisted September 1, 1863 in Montgomery County as Private, Company G, 14th Virginia Cavalry. Recommended for promotion to Sergeant December 1864. Present at Appomattox. Post War Career: Farmer. Lived in East Radford and briefly in Soldiers' Home, Richmond. To Roanoke 1908. Died- December 6, 1908 in Roanoke.
