Biography & Genealogy: | A. McNutt Paxton, Class of 1867: Born- July 31, 1848. Matriculated from Brandon, Mississippi. At VMI 4 months. Military Record: At VMI July 31-November 23, 1863. Dismissed for excessive demerits. Unofficial source says then entered army. No positive identification found, but may have been the "M. Paxton" whose name appears on an September 8, 1864 report as a member of Company D, 3rd Battalion (no other designation listed, but almost certainly of the Virginia Local Defense Troops [also called Col J. McAnerney's Battalion]) and who was then a guard at a military hospital in Richmond. Post War Career: VMI man at UVa 1867-68. Killed in same train wreck in which his uncle Paxton was fatally injured. Civil engineer; merchant. Died- August 6, 1870. |
