|Biography & Genealogy:||James Colin Neal, Class of 1867: Born- cSeptember 1846. Matriculated from Lunenburg County, Va. At VMI 2 1/2 months. Military Record: Unofficial source says in army before entered VMI and discharged because of age. (Possibly in 2nd Virginia Artillery). At VMI July 28-October 3, 1863. At Washington College 1863-64. Seems certain that he was the "James C. Neal" who enlisted June 1864 as Private, Company G, 9th Virginia Cavalry and whose only official record shows that he gave himself up at Dinwiddie Court House April 13, 1865 and was paroled under terms of the Appomattox surrender. Post War Career: Maried Emma Jordan 1866. Alive in May 1918 when he applied for a pension. Died- ?|
