|Biography & Genealogy:||James Bruce Morson, Class of 1867. New Market Cadet. Born- August 12, 1847, Richmond, Va. Father- Hon. James Marion Morson (circa 1817-1868); Mother- Ellen Carter Bruce (1820-1862). Paternal grandfather- Alexander Morson (b. 1759 d. 1822); paternal grandmother- Anne Casson Alexander (1781-1831); Mat. Grandfather- James Bruce; Mat. Grandmother- Elivira Cabell. Married- Claudia Marshall of Louisville, KY, on August 19, 1873. Children- Two daughters (Sallie Ewing Marshall Morson, b. 1875; Claudia Hamilton Morson, b. 1876) who both died in a drowning accident late August 1891; one son Thomas Seddon Morson, born 1883. Entered VMI- Aug. 6, 1863; Resigned in 1865 when the Corps of Cadets disbanded after the Civil War; Made Honorary Graduate of the Class of 1867 on Jan. 16, 1875. Civil War Service- Private in Co. C. of the Corps of Cadets during the Battle of New Market; Served with the Corps of Cadets in the trenches at Richmond, Va. until the end of the war. Careers- Planter; Manufacturer; Captain of Alabama National Guard. Died- Nov. 11, 1915 in Birmingham, Ala. Buried Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville, KY, as are many members of the Morson family.|
