Military Record: Enlisted March 1, 1864 at Charlotte Court House for war as a Private with Company B, 14th Virginia Cavalry ($50 bounty); present for duty through 1864 (last return on file). Post War Career: according to an unofficial souce, he was a student at Lewisburg Academy in West Virginia 1865-66; at Washington College 1866-68; at UVA 1872-73; Superintendent of Schools in Greenbrier County, West Virginia 1876-82; Democratic Representative of Greenbrier County in the West Virginia House of Delegates 1885-1909; Speaker of the House in 1885; owner and publisher of the Lewisburg "Greenbrier Independent" 1887-1917; Brigadier General and commanded West Virginia Division 1923-33. Died- Jan. 4, 1933; buried at the Old Stone Church in Lewisburg, West Virginia. |
