Biography & Genealogy: | Clarence B. Coleman, Class of 1867: (First name "Cleveland" in some records) Born- 4 April 1849. Matriculated from Bumpass. At VMI for 14 months. At Washington College 1865-1866. Military Record: Shipped October 1863. Unofficial sources say he was captured by US raiders in early 1864 and escaped. Identification not certain, but may have been the man who enlisted 28 July 1864 at Upperville for war as Pvt, Company E, Col J.S. Mosby's Regiment, Virginia Cavalry (43rd Battalion Virginia Cavalry) and was paroled at Ashland 26 April 1865. Post War Career: Civil Engineer. Worked for US government. Brother of Coleman, CG Jr (VMI Class of 1859) and Coleman, JJ (VMI Class of 1867). Son of Brig Gen C.G. Coleman, Sr, Third Brigade, Virginia Militia. Died- 23 October 1918. |
