|Biography & Genealogy:||White John Greenway, Class of 1866. Born- January 18, 1845. Matriculated from Abingdon, Va. At VMI 9 1/2 months over 2 years (repeated freshman year). Military Record: Dismissed November 25, 1862 for "collecting missiles in room to throw at officer after dark." Reinstated January 26, 1863. Enlisted August 12, 1863 at Abingdon in Company K (originally Company D), 21st Va Cavalry. Elected 2nd Lt November 1, 1863. While on leave for physical disability learned that his company had been consolidated with another. Believing the consolidation terminated his commission, he enlisted March 1, 1864 as Pvt, Company D, 1st Va Cavalry. Unofficial source says wounded in action at Winchester 1864. In October 1864 learned that the consolidation had been revoked and requested return to 21st Va Cavlary. So ordered October 21, 1864. Post War Career: Farmer; postmaster. Died- September 6, 1907.|
