Biography & Genealogy:	Smith Herbert McCurdy, Class of 1866: Born- August 31, 1846. Matriculated from Richmond, Va. At VMI 12 months over 2 years (repeated freshman year). Military Record: Enlisted August 1, 1864 at Richmond (one record shows Kinston, North Carolina) for 3 years as Pvt, Company C, 38th Battalion Virginia Light Artillery. In hospital (Richmond) late 1864-early 1865. Signed parole April 20, 1865 in Richmond. Post War Career: Tobacconist; purser on steamship. Died- Killed in streetcar accident in San Francisco, Ca. June 1908.
