Military Record: Enlisted April 25, 1861 at Harper's Ferry for 1 year as Private, Company A, 13th Virginia. On special duty January 1862 (last roll on file). Probably discharged as under age and/or to go to VMI. Dismissed from VMI February 1863 as AWOL; reinstated April 1863. Dismissed Ocotber 7, 1863 for neglect of duty. Enlisted December 1, 1863 in Fauquier County for war as Private. Company H, 4th Virginia Cavalry. In hospital (Gordonsville) March 1865 (syphilis). Paroled at Charlottesville may 16, 1865. Post War Career: Lawyer; journalist. At UVa 1865-67. Clerk, US House of Representatives 1885-86. Secretary, Virginia State Democrat Convention 1883-87. Virginia State law librarian 1894. Edited Charlottesville Chronicle and Gordonsville Gazette. Democrat. Died- January 17, 1929 in Charlottesville, Va. |
