Biography & Genealogy: | John Lane Leigh, Class of 1866: Born- August 27, 1847. Matriculated from Yalobusha, Mississippi. At VMI 6 months. Military Record: Seems to have served in 1861 as Private, Capt B.J. Epes's Company Virginia Heavy Artillery (Johnson Artillery). At VMI July 24 1862-January 26, 1863. Resigned at request of guardian. Enlilsted again in Epes's Company April 15, 1863 at Drewry. In hospital (Richmond) August 1864. Sought transfer to Mississippi early 1865. Paroled at Appomattox. Post War Career: Traveling salesman. Living in Little Rock, Arkansas 1920. Died- Nov. 12, 1929 in Little Rock, Ark. Buried in the Confederate Cemetery (Now enclosed within the National Cemetery) in marked grave #1104. |
