At VMI during two academic years. Married: In 1880, to Mary M. Motter. Two children - William M. (b. 1881) and Helen T. (b. 1885) Military Record: On June 15, 1861 at Winchester enlisted for 1 year as Private, Company F, 2nd Va. Discharged December 2, 1861. Entered VMI January 1862. Left VMI June 1863. Enlisted September 6, 1863 at Culpeper for 3 years as Private, Capt J.W. Carter's Company Va Horse Artillery (Capt R.P. Chew's Company '62; Capt J.W. Thomson's Company '64). Captured September 13, 1863 at Culpeper Court House. Held at Point Lookout, Md. Released on oath June 3, 1865. (Some records show captured September 14; name sometimes spelled "Holladay"). Post War Career: Traveling salesman; orchardist. Died: Waynesboro, Va April 3 1918. |
