Biography & Genealogy: | Hatton Clarence Riddick, Class of 1866: Born- July 7, 1848. Matriculated from Suffolk, Va. At VMI 2 years, 6 months (repeated freshman year). Military Record: Unofficial source says he deliberately broke VMI regulations to get out of school and join the army. At unknown date appointed Lt, Assistant Adjutant General on staff of Brig Gen A.C. Godwin. Wounded in action (throat-bullet never removed) at Cedar Creek. In hospital (Petersburg). Never able to resume duty. On June 1865 roll of paroled POWs in Richmond. Post War Career: Employed by New York Department of Public Works. Very active 1890-1927 in NY United Confederate Veterans. Died- January 14, 1927. Buried in Confederate plot, Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY in CS uniform. (Some records show date of death June 15). |
