Biography & Genealogy:	Born- March 23, 1845. Matriculated from Fayetteville, NC. Attended Hillsboro (NC) Military Academy. Drill master in NC prior to entering VMI. At VMI 2 years (repeated freshman year). Military Record: Entered service for war at Liberty Mills October 31, 1863 in Company B, 37th NC. Appointed 1st Lt (DOR December 30, 1863). Died- May 12, 1864 leading a charge at Spotsylvania. Brigade commander wrote that he "was among the foremost in the charge upon the battery and won the admiration of all who saw him."

The database currently includes the names of all enrolled students (both graduates and non-graduates) from VMI's opening in 1839 through the World War II era. In addition, you will find biographical and genealogical information, including a summary of military service during the Civil War, for many individuals who attended in the 19th century. The database also includes some historical Faculty and Board of Visitors members, as well as U. S. Army students sent to VMI for training during World Wars I and II.
