Enlisted August 13, 1863 at Chaffin's Bluff for war as Private, Company K, 34th Va (bounty). Transferred April 16, 1864 to the Confederate States Navy. On C.S.S. Chicora, Charleston, SC. Transferred to 7th SC Cavalry January 1865. Paroled at Appomattox. Post War Career: Merchant, machinist, locomotive engineer, mechanical engineer. Lived in Houston, Tx. Died- (Name "Gerdon" in some records; DOD August 5) August 25, 1933 in Houston, Tx.
