Pre War Record: At the University of Virginia 1852-55; Professor at Columbian College (now George Washington University) in Washington, D.C.; Professor of Math and Astronomy, University of Missouri 1860-61. Military Record: Captain, Columbia (Missouri) Home Guards 1861-62; joined Confederate States forces on an unknown date; Acting Assistant Adjutant General with Major General S.
