Biography & Genealogy:	George Payne Cowherd, Class of 1866: (Some records show name "Cowhard"; middle initial "T."). Born- 1844. Matriculated from Louisa Court House, VA. At VMI for 2 and 1/2 years. Military Record: Enlisted at Goochland 15 January 1864 for 3 years as Pvt, Company F, 4th Virginia Cavalry. Severly wounded in action (in the hand) September 1864. In hospital in Charlottesville. Returned to duty 17 Novmeber 1864. On roll POWs paroled at Louisa Court House on 15 May 1865. Post War Career: Farmer; Lumber manufacturer; Public official. Treasurer, Goochland County. Died- 16 March 1920.
