Biography & Genealogy:Jacob Thompson Coles, Jr. Class of 1866: Genealogy: Born- July 15, 1844 in Pittsylvania Co. Va. Father- Jacob Coles; Mother- Nancy Katherine (or Catherine) Patton. Pat. Grandfather- Issac Coles; Pat. Grandmother- Catherine Thompson. Mat. Grandfather- Dr. James Dodridge Patton; Mat. Grandmother- Mary Stearn. Married- Willie Blanche Leftwich, daughter of Dr. J. W. Leftwich and Elizabeth Jones on Jan. 27, 1885. Children- 1- Elizabeth Catherine Coles; 2- Elbridge Gerry Coles; 3- John Jacob Coles; there was a 4th child who died young, name unknown. VMI Record: Entered VMI- Dec. 21, 1861; Resigned Jan. 22, 1864 at his parents' request. Military Record: Enlisted at Pittsylvania Court House on March 21, 1864 as Private in the 6th Va. Cavalry; served in this capacity until the end of the war. Careers: Farmer. Died- Nov. 27. 1904.
