Biography & Genealogy: | John Carter Baldwin, Class of 1866: Born- 3 November 1843. Matriculated from Cold Springs. At VMI 15 month over two years. Military Record: Ran off with a volunteer company early in the war, but the Capt sent him home. Father sent him to VMI where he remained for a while. "Then with a foolish boyish patriotism I determined to enter the Service." Enlisted 1 July 1863 at Camp Bruce for the war as a Pvt in Capt A.B. Paris's Company, Virginia Artillery (Stanton Hill Artillery). With section of Company on the NC coast. Post War Career: PLanter; Public Official. Democrat Representative of Halifax County in Virginia House of Delegates 1887-88. Died- 3 January 1930. |
