Grandfather- William Radford; Mat. Grandmother- Rebecca Winston. Married: Mary Beale Richardson; 1st child- Marie Edmunson; 2nd- Granville Edmunson; 3rd- Anne Edmunson. Matriculated to VMI from Lafayette, VA. At VMI 1 year. Military Record: Entered service at Big Springs on Apr. 18, 1861 for one year as a Captain, Company B, 4th Virginia; Wounded in Action (severe fracture of arm) at First Manassas; admitted to Charlottesville hospital on July 22, 1861; absent during much of 1861 and early 1862; dropped at reorganization Apr. 21, 1862; commissioned Dec. 22, 1862 as a Captain, Company I, 4th Virginia State Line; promoted to Lieutenant Colonel of the 5th Virginia State Line on Feb. 9, 1863; Virginia State Line forces disbanded spring 1863 and he became a Captain with Company B, 21st Virginia Cavalry, to which most of his old company from the Virginia State Line was transferred; appointed Lieutenant Colonel on May 28, 1864 (date of rank Aug. 31, 1863); captured at Fisher's Hill Sep. 23, 1864; held at Fort Delaware, Delaware and Old Capitol Prison in Washington, D.C. (some records show date of capture as Sep. 21 or 22). Post War Career: Farmer Died- Sep. 24, 1893.|
