|Biography & Genealogy:||Winter Samuel Drew, Class of 1865: Born- December 28, 1845. Matriculated from Baton Rouge, La. At VMI 4 1/2 months. Believing VMI would close after spring 1862, he went home. When he returned, he found the school full. Disobeyed father's instructions to go to Wilmington, NC to run blockade to France to finish school. Military Record: Followed Army of Northern Va to Chambersburg, Pa where on June 30, 1863 he enlisted for war as Pvt, 2nd Company. Washington (La) Artillery of New Orleans. (How many Rebel soldiers enlisted in Pa?) Absent sick August-October 1863 and May 1864-February 1865 (last report on file). Unofficial source says ordered to La to report to medical officers there. Included in Citronelle, Al surrender May 4, 1865. Paroled at Jackson, Mississippi May 19, 1865. Post War Career: Editor of Agricultural Review and Commercial Gazette 9St Louis, Mo). Unofficial source says Capt, Mo National Guard. Died- July 4, 1916 in St Louis, Mo. Buried State Cemetery, Franfurt, Kentucky.|
