Grandfather- Cornelius Baldwin; Pat. Grandmother- unknown. Mat. Grandfather- John Brown; Mat. Grandmother- Frances Peyton. Married- Adeline Garber, daughter of Albert J. Garber and Mary Miller. Children- Mrs. Arista Hoge. VMI Record: Entered VMI- July 7, 1845; Resigned April 24, 1849. Civil War Record: Unofficial source says he helped recruit Cavalry Regiment in Ga. (State Guards); Identification speculative, but may have been the J.W. Baldwin whose only record shows him having enlisted at Dawson, Ga. As Private in Captain C.B. Wooten's Co. 15th Battalion Ga. Cavalry (State Guards) on Aug. 5, 1863. Careers: Private in USMC 1854-60; clerk in Staunton, Va. And ran baggage express business after the war. Died- Nov. 1, 1875 in a drowning accident. Buried in Thornrose Cemetery, Staunton, Va.|
