|Biography & Genealogy:||Alpheus Childs Rowland, Class of 1865: Born- Ocotber 20, 1845. Matriculated from Norfolk, Va. At VMI 4 months. Military Record: Identification not certain, but may have been the 16-year old "A.C. Rowland" who, at Hillsboro, North Carolina on May 26, 1862 enlisted for war as Private, Company G, 3rd North Carolina Artillery (40th North Carolina State Troops) (VMI man known to have served in North Carolina unit). To Corporal July 15, 1862. Reduced to Private September 22, 1862. Company became Company E, 13th Battalion North Carolina Artillery, and he served in that unit. In fall 1864 on detached duty as clerk, Assistant Adjutant General Office, Kinston, North Carolina. Paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina April 26, 1965 and signed parole at Charlotte, North Carolina May 19, 1865. Post War Career: Clerk; "traveler." Died- June 16, 1889.|
