|Biography & Genealogy:||Marshall Ambler Moncure, Class of 1865: Born- Oct. 23, 1840 in Richmond, Va. Father- Henry Wood Moncure; Mother- Catherine Cary Ambler. Mat. Grandfather- John Ambler; Mat. Grandmother- Lucy Marshall. No information about Pat. Grandparents. Married- Elizabeth Imogene Wynn, daughter of John M. Wynn of Raceland, Dinwiddie Co. Va. Children- 1- Henry W. Moncure (died in infancy) 2- Ambler Brooke Moncure. Attended school in Dutchy of Meinigue in Germany for four years, and then in the College Roland in Paris in 1859. Entered VMI Oct. 4, 1860; Left after one year, probably to join the service. Civil War Service- Drilled recruits in Richmond in the Spring of 1861; Enlisted Mar. 6, 1862 at Camp Bate as Private in Co.B of the 9th Va. Cavalry. Post War Career- Farmer in Dinwiddie Co. Va.; Established (along with his brother James Dunlap Moncure) the Pinel Hospital at Richmond, Va. a private institute for the insane; Returned to farming in 1882; He was also a taxidermist either by profession or hobby in his last years. Died- Jan. 18, 1900 in Raceway, Dinwiddie Co. Va.|
