Biography & Genealogy: | Nathaniel Ware Lee, Class of 1865: Born- January 8, 1843. Matricualted from Greenville, Mississippi. At VMI 1 year (entered as a 5th year fresman). Military Career: Left on guard at VMI April 1861. Escorted weapons to Harper's Ferry April 22, 1861 where he became Aide-de-camp to Col (later Lt Gen) T.J. "Stonewall" Jackson. His conduct at First Manassas, reported Jackson, merited "special praise." Enlisted March 9, 1862 at Greenville, Ms for 3 years as Private, Company D, 28th Ms Cavalry. (Horse valued at $175.) Reports for July-October 1862 show absent sick. Mortally wounded at Coldwater, Ms. Died- Panola, Ms in December 25, 1862. |
