Military Record: Dropped from VMI (excessive demerits) January 14, 1864. Enlisted February 17, 1864 for war in Rockbridge Co. Assigned to Company E, 1st CS Engineers. To Sergeant April 4, 1864. Paroled at Appomattox. Son of Col. W Gilham, VMI faculty, Col 21st Va, author of noted drill manual. Post War Career: Chemist Died- February 3, 1869 in Lexington, Va.
