|Biography & Genealogy:||George Alexander Spiers, Class of 1864-MS; 1865: Born- January 14, 1845- November 1, 1929). Matriculated from Richmond, Va. At VMI 9 months over 3 years (repeated freshman year). Military Record: Unofficial source says served as a volunteer with 4th Cavalry in late 1862. Enlisted April 14 (or May 28) 1863 at Culpeper for the war a Private, Company A, 10th Va Cavalry. Soon detailed as courier for Maj. Gen J.E.B. Stuart. Requested cadetship Oct 1863. WIA several times at uknown dates and places. Served with Maj. Gen W.H.F. Lee the summer of 1864, probably as a courier. Paroled at Appomattox as a Sergeant, Company F, 10th Va Cavalry. Accompanied the Lees on their return to Richmond after the surrender. Post War Career: Made fortune in tobacco. Practiced and taught medicine in Richmond. Prominent local philanthropist. Died- November 1, 1929 in Richmond, Va.|
