(last name unknown) on October 2, 1873. Children- 1st: Mary Cabell; 2nd: Harriett Miller; 3rd: Joseph Rowland Echols, Jr.; 4th: Robert McCulloch Echols. Matriculated to VMI from Balcony Falls, VA. At VMI 3 1/2 years, entering as a 3d Classman (sophomore). Military Record: Served as a Sergeant with Company D, VMI Corps of Cadets, during the Battle of New Market; Wounded in Action at New Market (not reported); promoted to Cadet Lieutenant during the fall of 1864; in Richmond hospital Nov. 20-27, 1864; with Corps of Cadets in Richmond trenches until it disbanded on Apr. 2, 1865.
