Biography & Genealogy: | Walter Blow Chambliss, Class of 1865: Born- Jan., 1849. Matriculated from Hicksford, Va. (now Emporia) At VMI 1 year. Military Record: Enlisted Oct. 1, 1863 at Hicksford, Va, for war as private, Co. H, 13th Va. Cavalry. Appointed 1st Lt. and Aide-de-camp to his brother Brigadier General J. R. Chambliss on March 16, 1864. In hospital in Petersburg, Va., on June 11, 1864, to Aug. 5, 1864 (dysentery). Lost commission when his brother was killed in action on Aug. 16, 1864. Paroled at Appomattox, Va. as private, 13th Va. Cavalry. Post War Career: Lawyer. At UNC 1862-1863. Died- March 23, 1886. |
