Biography & Genealogy:William Addison Branch, Class of 1865. Born- 26 April 1845. Matriculated from Petersburg, VA. At VMI 2 and 1/2 months. Military Record: Left VMI to join brother's artillery company. Enlisted for war on 1 September 1863 at Petersburg as a Pvt, Capt R.G. Pegram's Company, Virginia Light Artillery (Capt J.R. Branch's Company). When temporary artillery battalion was organized he was detailed as battalion adjutant. Efforts to promote him to 2nd Lt unsuccessful because of temporary status of battalion. On roll paroled POWs, Richmond, April-May 1865. Post War Career: Farmer. In West Virginia 1865-1870, in Georgia 1870-1877. Died- November 1880 in California.
