Alexandria, VA); Mother - Eliza J. Harper (b. "Spring Hill", Albemarle Co. VA); maternal grandparents - Charles Harper and Lucy Smithers; paternal grandparents - John Wood and Elizabeth Meyers. VMI Record: Entered May 14, 1861; received military training for seven weeks. Other Schools: Graduate, University of Virginia, 1859. Career: Lawyer; practiced in Albemarle Co. Marriage: To Clara Forsyth Hargraves on May 17, 1866, at Christ Church, Columbus, GA. She was the daughter of George Hargraves and granddaughter of John Forsyth, Gov. of GA, U. S. Senator, Secretary of State. Issue (living in 1913): 1. Hargraves Wood 2. Waddy Butler Wood 3. Virginia Hargraves Wood 4. Anna Forsyth Wood 5. Eliza Theres Wood, m. Dr. Clifford Sperow 6. Military Record: Served throughout war as a staff officer, including AAG on staff of BG Samuel Garland (VMI 1849); captured at Antietam, paroled, exchanged 8 Nov. 1862; subsequently ordered to Dept. of SC, GA, and FL for duty on staff of BG R. S. Ripley. Signed parole 2 May 1865 at Greensboro, NC. Death: June 17, 1930, age 94, at Ivy, Albemarle Co., VA.|
