|Biography & Genealogy:||Watson John Davis, Class of 1864-MS: Born- January 21, 1841. Matriculated from Charlottesville, Va. At VMI 7 weeks. At UVa 1859-61. Unofficial source says enlisted June 1861 as Pvt, Capt C.F. Johnston's Company Va Light Artillery (Albemarle Artillery; Capt W.H. Southall's Company). To Sgt. No official record of such service found. On November 23, 1861 became 2nd Lt, Company D, 46th Va. Captured at Roanoke Island February 8, 1862. Paroled Elizabeth City, North Carolina February 21, 1862. Exchanged. To 1st Lt September 10, 1862. Appointed Adjutant, 57th Va January 21, 1863; transferred February 12, 1863. Unofficial source says wounded in action (groin), captured, and recaptured at Gettysburg. In hospital (Charlottesville) July 21-September 23, 1863. Captured April 1, 1865 at Dinwiddie Court House. Held at Johnson's Island, Ohio. Released on oath June 19, 1865. Post War Career: Married Susan Henry Smythe. 2nd marriage to Josephine Emma Norris. Reported to have never recovered from wound. Died- November 28, 1916 in Charlottesville.|
