Biography & Genealogy:Tucker John Heartwell, Class of 1864-MS: Born- October 27, 1842. Matriculated from San Marino, Va. At VMI 7 weeks. At William and Mary 1859-61. Enlisted September 15, 1861 at Camp Adams for 1 year as Pvt, Company I, 3rd Va Cavalry. Absent sick March 1862. Extended enlisted for 2 years or war April 1, 1862. Detailed June 5, 1862 for hospital duty (perhaps because of a physical disability). MD, Medical College of Virginia. Appointed Assistant Surgeon, Confederate States Navy June 1, 1864. Served on Peedee near Georgetown, South Carolina. At Drewry's Bluff 1865. Captured April 3, 1865 at Richmond. Paroled April 20, 1865. Post War Career: To Henderson, North Carolina 1874.
