Biography & Genealogy: | George Julian Pratt, Class of 1864-MS: Born- March 6, 1843. Matriculated from University, Va. At VMI 7 weeks. At UVa 1858-61, where he was Sergeant in Capt J.T. Tosh's 1860 student company ("Sons of Liberty"). Military Record: In Company G, 59th Virginia. Unofficial source says commissioned Captain to organize artillery company but captured in North Carolina while recruiting and exchanged. Enlistment August 21, 1862 at UVa for war in Company F, 1st Virginia Partisan Rangers. Company became Company H, 62nd Virginia. To Sergeant. Appointed 1st Lt, Company H, 18th Virginia Cavalry December 11, 1862. (Many men transferred from Company H, 62nd Virginia to Company H, 18th Virginia Cavalry). In hospital (Charlottesville) July-August 1863 (cystitis) and late February 1864 (rheumatism). No further record found. Unofficial source says twice wounded in action, 5 horses "shot under him." Post War Career: Farmer; stockraiser. Married Mary E. Brown. Baptist. Died- December 25, 1924 near Waynesboro, Va. |
