Biography & Genealogy: | George Norris, Class of 1864-MS: Born- November 5, 1837. Matriculaed from Charlottesville, Va. At UVa 1860-61. At VMI 7 weeks. Military Career: Entered service for 1 year at Charlottesville with unit that became Company D, 59th Va (2nd Regiment, Brig Gen H.A. Wise's Legion). To 2nd Lt at unknown date (before August 20, 1861). To 1st Lieutenant at unknown date in 1861. Company became Company D, 46th Virginia (1st Regiment, Wise Legion). Captured at Roanoke Island February 8, 1862. Exchanged. Elected Captain September 10, 1862. In hospital (Charlottesville) September 1863 (rheumatism). In arrest December 1863 ("forgot his duty"). Paroled at Appomattox. Post War Career: Merchant; teacher. Died- August 17, 1873. |
