Biography & Genealogy:Edward Barnwell Middleton, Class of 1864-MS: Born- c1842. Matriculated from Charleston, South Carolina. Cadet at South Carolina Military Academy (the Citadel) 1858-61. At VMI 3 weeks. Military Record: Drill Master, summer 1861. Enlisted April 28, 1862 in 2nd Military District of South Carolina for war as Private, Captain E.L. Parker's Company South Carolina Artillery (Marion Light Artillery). March-April 1863 rolls shows "present in confinement." Discharged June 8, 1863. Joined Company H, 1st South Carolina Artillery Regiment June 10, 1863 as 2nd Lt (appointed May 30, 1863; date of rank May 14). On detached service with Company G late 1863-early 1864. Under arrest April 1864 (no details known). To 1st Lt August 8, 1864 (date of rank July 20). Captured at Averysbboro, North Carolina March 16, 1865. Held at Old Capitol Prison, Washington DC and Johnson's Island, Ohio. Released on oath June 17, 1865. Post War Career: Businessman. Died- June 26, 1910.
