|Biography & Genealogy:||Andrew Jackson, Class of 1847: Genealogy: Born- Oct. 29, 1828 in Petersburg, Va. Father- John Jackson (1802-1870); Mother- Anne Aldridge (1813-1877). No information about grandparents. We have no records in our files indicating that he was married. VMI Record: Entered VMI- Aug. 6, 1844; Dismissed July 6, 1846 for excess demerits. Death: Likely at Petersburg, VA in 1862. Buried Blandford Cemetery. Military Service: Documented evidence for service in the U. S. Army, 3rd Infantry, during the 1840's-1850's. His Civil War service has been consistently confused with that of a different (& not associated with VMI) Andrew Jackson of the 5th S. C. Infantry. We do not have documentation clarifying Civil War service for VMI's Andrew Jackson. Evidence suggests that he died in 1862 and is buried near his parents in Petersburg. We have correspondence on file (2011) from historian outlining identity confusion with the other A. Jackson.|
