|Biography & Genealogy:||James Alexander McCaw, Class of 1864-MS: Born- November 10, 1841. Matriculated from Mobile, Al. At VMI 2 weeks. Graduated from Ogelthorpe University (Georgia) 1861. On August 11, 1861 enlisted as Private, Company F, 1st Ga. To Corporal October 1, 1861. In hospital (Richmond) May 4-10, 1862 (diarrhea). To Sergenat at unknown date. Appointed 2nd Lt and Drill Master (date of rank) and assigned to camp of instruction, Talladega, Alabama. On November 17, 1863 elected 1st Lt of a unit that became Company A, 1st Alabama Reserves (Lt Col H.C. Lockhart's Battalion; 62nd Alabama). Elected Captain December 22, 1863. Sick (laryngitis) March 1864. Wounded in action July 18, 1864 (Brig Gen L.H. Rousseau's Raid). Unofficial says Wounded in action near Tuskegee, Alabama in 1865. Post War Career: Cotton broker. Died- June 22, 1883 in Louisville, Kentucky.|
