Biography & Genealogy: | William Miller Mcallister, Class of 1864-MS: Born- March 6, 1843. Matriculated from Covington, Va. At VMI 7 weeks. At what is now Penn State University 1859-61. Unofficial source says drilled with Company A, 27th Virginia Infantry Regiment (his father's company) at Harper's Ferry before father sent him to VMI. Military Record: Enlisted July 4, 1861 at Camp Clover for 1 year in Company A 27th Va. Elected 3rd Sergeant August 26, 1861. In late 1861 company became Capt J.C. Carpenter's Company Va Light Artillery (Allegheny Artillery; Allegheny Rough Artillery; Capt J. Carpenter's Company). On furlough Jan-Feb 1862. To Pvt, April 23, 1862. Unofficial source says Wounded in Action at Port Republic. Wounded in Action (slight, side) at Cedar Mountain. On furlough fall 1862. Absent sick May-June 1863. On detached service April 1864. Post War Career: At UVa 1868-69. Married Margaret A. Ervin 1869. Commonwealth's attorney, Bath County 1874-84. Democrat (delegate to 1888 national convention). On VMI Board of Visitors 1891-93. With US Department of Justice 1893-98. Represented Bath County in Virginia House of Delegates 1899-1901. Member, Board of Directors, Western Lunatic Asylum. Presbyterian. Mason.
