Biography & Genealogy:	Hugh Ramsey Thompson Koontz, Class of 1864-MS: Born- August 19, 1837. Matriculated from Mt. Jackson, Va. At VMI 12 days. Military Record: Entered service at Ortney Springs August 1, 1861 for 1 year as Lt, Company K, 7th Virginia Cavalry. Elected Captain November 1861. Re-appointed May 22, 1862. Absent sick December 1863-March 1864. Unofficial source says on sick furlough OCtober 7, 1864 when he learned Confederates were retreating. Rejoined unit near Mt. Jackson. Commanded regiment as senior officer Present For Duty. Soon mortally wounded in action. Died- October 8, 1864.
