Biography & Genealogy:Gay Charles Wyndham Born- August 8, 1841. (Some sources give date of birth October 25, 1843; say he attended University of Virginia.) Matriculated from Staunton, Va. At VMI 7 weeks. Miitary Record: Unofficial sources say he served with University Volunteers (Company G, 59th Va.) until that unit disbanded in late 1861. Same sources say he was briefly with Capt A. Graham's Company Va Light Artillery (1st Rockbridge Art.) Enlisted April 25, 1862 at Elk River for 2 years as a Private, Capt B.Z. Price's Company Va Light Artillery (Danville Artillery). Killed in action at Malvern Hill July 1, 1862. Buried first in local churchyard; later moved to Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond. Brother of Gay, Henry Erksine, Class of 1864-MS.
