Biography & Genealogy: | Everett W. Early, Class of 1864MS: Born- Feb. 29, 1844. Matriculated from Charlottesville, VA. At VMI 7 weeks. Military Record: Enlisted July 17, 1861 at Manassas for 1 year as a Private, Company B (later Company I), 49th Virginia; slightly Wounded in Action at First Manassas; promoted to Sergeant Major on August 4, 1861; in Charlottesville hospital from December, 1861 to January, 1862 due to chronic rheumatism; roll from Jan.-Feb. 1862 him as a 3d Lieutenant; elected 2d Lieutenant, April 30, 1862; promoted to 1st Lieutenant on January 31, 1863; Wounded in Action (right arm) on May 4, 1863 near Fredericksburg, and subsequently treated at Charlottesville; at University of Virginia 1863-66; an unofficial source says he briefly rejoined his regiment in the spring of 1864; retired to Invalid Corps on Feb. 1, 1865; resigned March 17, 1865. Post War Career: Represented Albemarle and Green Counties in Virginia Senate 1879-1880; lawyer, public official. Died- Aug. 19, 1893 in New York, New York. |
