|Biography & Genealogy:||Thomas Coleman Chandler, Class of 1864MS: Born- March 15, 1840. Matriculated from Caroline County, Va. At VMI 6 weeks. Military Record: Enlisted July 15, 1861, at Aquia Creek for 1 year as private, Co. K, 47th Va. To 2nd Lt. October, 1861. Absent sick most of 1862. On duty as Enrolling Officer late 1862. Slightly wounded in action (right knee) on May 3, 1863. Found medically unfit for infantry in late 1863, and assigned to Ivalid Corps on April 22, 1864. Assigned to unknown duty, possible with Signal Corps. Captured in Spotsylvania, Va. on May 12, 1864. Held at Ft. Delaware, DE, then sent to SC coast with the "Immortal 600". Took oath and released at Ft. Delaware, DE, on June 16, 1865. Post War Career: Farmer, Restauranteur. Lived in Washington, DC. Married Virginia Alsop ca. 1873. Officer, Society of the Immortal Six Hundred, 1906. Died- March 17, 1919, in NC. Buried in Lakewood Cementery, Bowling Green, Va.|
