|Biography & Genealogy:||Frank Strother Bibb, Class of 1864MS. Some records show first name "French"; DOD 29 May Born- 7 August 1843. Matriculated from Charlottesville, VA. At VMI 6 weeks. Unofficial sources say he was at Richmond College (now University of Richmond) fall of 1860 (school's records destroyed in war). At UVA 1861-1862. Military Record: Enlisted 15 March 1862 at Charlottesville as Pvt, Capt J.M. Carrington's 1864MS Company, Virginia Light Artillery (Charlottesville Artillery). Elected 2nd Lt 17 April 1862. In hospital (in Charlottesville) December 1862 to January 1863. Mortally wounded in action (in the groin) 3 May 1863 at Chancellorsville. After the wound he told "an irreligious comrade," "I am willing to die for my country; and I think it had better be myself than you." A very competent officer. Died- 28 May 1863 in Hospital 4, Richmond, VA.|
